Battling a High-Fever

It was a week ago today that Wes and I faced Presley's first high fever. We were vacationing in Mississippi for a long weekend visiting our friends that recently moved (I will be posting pictures soon of our trip). On Saturday Wes and I had noticed that Presley was a little more irritable than normal and extremely tired. We thought that it was from the 12 hour car ride and that she probably hasn't caught up on her rest.

Well as Sunday approached Presley was more and more lazy so Wes and I put her down for an early bedtime of 5:30pm. We decided to check on her around 10:30pm and change her diaper for the night (she drank a ton of water that day and we didn't want her diaper to overflow). What a blessing it was for us to check on her because as I lifted her out of the pack-n-play she felt like a furnace. I turned on the light and our little olive-skinned beautiful baby was bright red. I took her into our bedroom and checked her temperature. It shot up to 104.5!! So many thoughts were going through my mind: I was scared for Presley knowing that a high fever could result in going to the hospital and fever-seizures, nervous about being in nurse mode and not mommy mode....it is hard sometimes to not let the mommy in me take over and panic. Wes and I quickly reacted. My mom is a nurse (praise the Lord) and I called her to check on the steps I needed to take to get her fever down.

Tylenol: check; luke-warm wash cloths to cool her off: check; see if she will drink some water: check; if wet cloths don't work put her in a luke-warm bath: check; get some Infant Motrin: check. I think Wes and I were in such a mode of reaction that we didn't really have time to panic and get too upset about the situation we were fighting. 30 minutes seemed like hours waiting for the Tylenol to take affect. Presley's fever slowly but surely went down. She was so delirious and still. This was not our baby. She is full of life and always on the go. As her fever slowly dropped it was as if life was pumped back into our beautiful baby. She was Presley again. Our hearts were relieved.

Since Sunday she has battled a small fever both Monday & Tuesday but is doing great now. I think it was just a small virus she picked up. What a blessing it was for Wes and I to check on her one more time before we called it a night. Despite the Sunday night fever we had an amazing time with our friends in Mississippi. I will be posting pictures very soon.

Presley's 9 1/2 months!

I love her little neck!

Hi Mom
Happy Baby

So Big

Presley is now over 9 months old. It is hard to believe that she will soon be celebrating her 1st birthday. How exciting. She is a wonderful baby. God has totally blessed us with her. She is such a joy and brings so much love into our lives.
Some of her current achievements:
  • She loves the word "Hot." Everything is hot. It is adorable.
  • When we ask her she points to: Daddy, Mommy, nose, mouth, pictures of baby Presley, Honey Bee (in her book), and kitty
  • She loves when we ask her "How big is Baby Presley?" She puts her hands up and we say "Soooo Big!!"
  • We are starting to learn her language. Boo means book, baba means bottle......the list goes on.
  • She has stood on her own a few times. I think it scares her. She will have it soon

9 month doctors appointment:

Weight: 17.1 ounce
Length: I am going to have to check on the length....the sheet is upstairs. ;)

Presley's 1st Christmas!

My Favorite Christmas Cookies!

Christmas was a blurrrr.....but a great one. We were able to see all our family & let them be apart of Presley's 1st Christmas which was really special. Presley did really well. I think she was overwhelmed by all the attention and gifts. The one thing that caught Wes and I off guard was the sound of wrapping paper tearing scared her. She would cry at the sound of it. It was a little funny. We will have to work on this before her 1st Birthday.

She is also scared of Santa. Wes & I took her the Friday before Christmas and she was not to keen on the jolly man in the red suit. We ended up having to sit with her for the picture. After that experience anyone with a hat on that was remotely the color of red she would freak out. So I am guessing it was a traumatic experience for her....but we will try it again next year. ;)

Wes and I loved sharing this Christmas with our daughter. We made so many wonderful memories with her and with our family. Thanks to all who shared in Presley's 1st Christmas....it would not have been the same without you.
